Visual View

By default, users will automatically be directed to Lineage Analysis' visual view. Where the view diagram panel takes up a majority of the window within Lineage Analysis'. It applies all of the settings selected within the lineage analysis toolbar to the currently focused object within the solution explorer to create a visual representation of the object's lineage.

The use of icons and color within the diagram will help users quickly identify the object and technology types associated with each node. Below is an abbreviated list of the colors and icons used for the main technology types, though other icons are used throughout the lineage diagram as well.

SQL Server Objects

SSIS Objects

SSAS Objects

SSRS Objects

Other Objects

Including the two buttons in the lower left of the diagram, the diagram does have other ways of navigating the diagram in a meaningful way.

Move Node: Left-clicking on a node and then dragging the mouse allows users the ability to move a single node around the diagram without affecting the other nodes.

Pan: Left clicking on the view diagram allows users to pan the lineage diagram to see more of the diagram if it does not all fit within the screen.

Zoom in and out: Using the mouse wheel allows users to zoom in and out to see more details within the diagram

Reset Zoom: Clicking the reset zoom button allows users to reset the zoom of the diagram to its default value

Zoom Preview: Clicking the zoom preview button allows users the ability to launch the zoom preview window.

o   The zoom preview window contains a small preview window of the entire lineage diagram as well as the ability to zoom in, zoom in, and quickly change views

Lineage Route Inspector: Double-clicking on a link between two objects will launch the lineage route inspector. The lineage route inspector allows users the ability to view all dependencies that link one object to another object.

Context Menu: Right-clicking on an object node will launch a context menu that will provide users with a number of functions

o   Focus on this: Clicking the focus on this button will automatically re-draw the diagram with the currently selected object as the main focus

o   View metadata: If the currently selected node contains metadata, the view metadata button will launch the Metadata Viewer focused on that specific item.

o   Show collapsed item names: If the currently selected node is a collapsed technology, the show collapsed item names button provides users with a detail list of all the containing objects

o   Extend this item: Clicking the extend this item button will, if possible, display more dependency levels for the currently selected object

o   Hide this item: Clicking the hide this item button will temporarily hide the currently selected node. Once the diagram is redrawn it will be included again.

o   Hide this item for this session: Clicking the hide this item button will ignore the currently selected node, excluding it from being included within the diagram. Clicking the reload solution button will include the select node within the lineage again.

o   Set as trace source:  If the currently selected object contains lineage, the set as trace source button will enable the trace bar and set the currently selected object as the source. This context menu option is used within trace mode

o   Set as trace target:  If the currently selected object contains lineage, the set as trace target button will enable the trace bar and set the currently selected object as the target. This context menu option is used within trace mode
